Question by cindy h: will alpha lipoic acid help with weight loss?
will this help with weight loss if your body isn’t using insulin properly? I have heard this but I’d like to know if anyone else has, or even better if anyone else has taken it for that reason.
If it metabolizes sugar, then that would naturally aid in weight loss, no?

Alpha Lipolic Acid is classified as a coenzyme that is water and fat soluble. It benefits include:

1. Help metabolize sugar

2. Beneficial for liver health

3. Help skin look healthier and more radiant

4. A powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize free radical.

It does not promote weight loss and it is a powerful antioxidant.

Hope this helps!Alpha Lipoic Acid, or lipoic acid, is a potent antioxidant, with a wide range of uses, but I don’t think weight loss is among them. It can aide in reducing vitamin C and E deficiencies,, and “has been shown in cell culture experiments to increase cellular uptake of glucose by recruiting the glucose transporter GLUT4 to the cell membrane, suggesting its use in diabetes.” (wikipedia). It is also suggested that it improves memory function, and may prove useful in treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as being beneficial in treatment of neurological damage caused by neuropathy and Parkinson’s disease. So, while you may get some results in better glucose control and possibly improvement in neuropathy, I don’t think it will really help directly with weight loss. Hope this helps!
