Question by leezaaa: What are some ways I can speed up my metabolism other than exercising?
I’m 205 lbs, 5’7, 15 year old female.

I’ve heard of green tea, but I’m starting up an exercise regimen and I wanted to know if there were any other kinds of metabolism-boosting methods out there. No pills or anything unnatural please.

You can’t depend on speeding up your metabolism to lose weight. Try this instead:
Exercising is the obvious thing. Try to get at least 45 minutes of cardio in a day, as well as other exercises involving weights and flexibility. Food is the most important. Stay away from fad diets, such as the Atkin’s or South Beach, and just maintain a lean, high-protein diet. Some bads include: diet soda (don’t let the “diet” trick you), anything sugar-free (usually, some form of unhealthy sweetner is used in place, which is just as bad), and even foods that people assume to be healthy, such as Yoplait yogurt (it’s all simple carbs). Good foods include skinless, boneless chicken grilled with no seasonings, fish, egg whites (only 17 calories), or any form of complex carbohydrates (which includes brown rice, a lot of fruits and veggies, and some wheat products). Also, don’t be afraid of fats, for you need some (polyunsaturated or monounsaturated are best), or carbs; just be aware of what type of carbohydrate you eat- complex carbs are what you want (simple includes white bread, many juices, Nutrigrain Bars, etc, as well as anything unhealthy). NEVER eat anything containing high fructose corn syrup or partially hydrogenated soybean oil- you’re just putting crap into yourself. Some of my favorite snacks are apples or bananas with organic peanut butter, hard-boiled egg whites, or black bean burritos with brown rice and a little cheese and salsa. Just remember, you are aiming to lose weight gradually while maintaining a healthy diet.

    I hate to seem like I’m spamming, and hate to seem cranky about it, but people refuse to understand this.

It has been around for thousands of years, when mankind existed before the industrial revolution. You want to know the secret? It’s the easiest remedy, requires no guesswork, and can take awhile, but is worth the benefits? Suspense gotcha yet?

    OK, the real true way the body was created, to maintain your weight true to your height and build is to….

    1) Eat as much unprocessed organic foods as possible. Lay off the prepackaged, starchy, homogenised, refined foods. Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, whole grains, and get as much protein from vegetation. If you must eat meat, eat organic. Or buy from kosher markets. Drink bottled spring water. Fiji water is the best. It might seem more expensive at first, but think of it this way. Would you rather pay into aggravating medical bills stemming from your unhealthy lifestyle, or spend a little more serving you and you family healthy foods your bodies intended to have since the creation of mankind?
    Think about it. There wasn’t a whole lot of overweight couch potato settlers. They worked for what they had. Physical labor, for meagre earnings, meagre food rationed. yet, they survived. They were their average weight. There was not diabetes, or any strange diseases we see today. Don’t believe me? Google it. Which brings me to number 2…

    2) Exercise as much as you can. Even if it means short simple walks daily at first. Before all the modernisation of the world we walked, lifted, stooped, knelt, and occasionally ran. The ratio to exercise is burn off at least over half of what you consumed the previous day. Normal brain functions, stress, everyday activities besides exercise burns off the rest, and doesn’t deposit as fat.

    If you aren’t healthy enough for physical activities, I urge you to cut out the prepackaged foods, and corn syrup laden drinks, and eat more natural foods. I guarantee you will lose weight from just doing that, than relying on herbal teas or nutrition supplements you found that say “AS SEEN ON TV”

    well. something that is good is drinking green tea as it is chock full of antioxidants and is naturally good for the immune system. Another way to speed up the metabolism is to eat normal, small meals every three hours, it seems like a lot but its not. Just keep the meals small and not grande, this way the metabolic process is always going and burns fat easier.

    Altering your diet between low calorie days and regular calorie days is a way of keeping your metabolism from stalling. Every 4th day of your diet have a regular day of eating with no cutting calories (don’t pig out or eat unhealthy) This is also a great way of not depriving yourself. You will also need to start some weight training in order to build muscles (which burn calories).
