Question by Katie Davis: I’m trying to lose weight, can protein shakes help? if not what can. also will it help sore muscles?
I’ve been going to the gym for a week now, I’ve noticed really sore muscles. Can a protein shake help or a protein bar? I’m 145 and I want to put a kick into weight loss the healthy way. I’ve noticed small girls drinking shakes and smoothies but also men who are huge? and tips

thank you

Protein shakes help but I recommend a drink called P90x Results and Recovery Formula. It is designed to be used with P90x but can also be used after any workout. I have used it in the past and can honestly say that is helps with soreness. It won’t completely take the soreness away but wil alleviate some of it.

Protein shakes help aid in the recovery of your muscles post workout. However, shakes in itself do not really minimize sore muscles. Trust me, I would know. I’m sore after leg day as we speak.

The only thing I can think of that can reduce soreness is creatine monohydrate. Not sure you being a female will want to take that, though if you’re interested in more info, I could help you. Other than that, massages, hot baths, some ice can help as well as over the counter medicine.

Sore muscles is a good thing 🙂 It means that you have had a good workout and that you are burning calories and creating muscle. Protein shakes and protein bars will help as protein repairs muscle and protein is the must have for weight loss as it keeps you satisfied for longer. However, rather than getting into protein shakes, try and get your protein from natural sources as it is better for you. Only use the shakes and bars for convenience if you can’t cook or have access to fresh food.
