Question by Steven: How much Oolong Tea should I drink a day?
I want to drink Oolong tea to assist with my weight loss. How much should I drink a day? Should I drink it in the morning with breakfast? What are some high quality brands of Oolong tea? Where can I buy it? What was your experince with oolong tea like? Thanks!

Oolong tea is wonderful, and I drink a lot of it, and there is certainly evidence that it is healthy. But it’s still primarily a drink, and not a weight loss product. If you want to lose weight, the only sustainable, healthy way to lose weight is by eating a healthy, diverse diet and getting regulary exercise.

My advice, if you want to drink oolong tea, is to stop thinking about what you “should” do and focus on buying high-quality oolong tea and choosing it based on taste. I recommend buying single-region tea, tea of a named variety, and from a particular region, with a particular harvest and/or packing date.

The best oolong tea is only available as loose-leaf tea. I would not waste your time with tea bags. I would recommend buying whole-leaf oolong tea, and a tea infuser, like a Finum Basket Infuser.

If you want a quick-and-easy recommendation for where to start, my favorite company for high-quality oolongs is Life in Teacup. It’s a very small company. If you want a bigger company which also has some cheaper offerings, you could look at Upton Tea Imports, they can be a bit hit-or-miss but I’ve had some very good and very inexpensive Chinese oolongs from them. But I’ve had good oolongs from many different companies. If you’re lucky enough to live near a Wegmans supermarket, they sell good loose-leaf oolong.
