Question by Lena: Can you still have a high metabolism eating one meal a day?
Do you HAVE to eat like every 3-4 hours in order to have a high metabolism? Like what if you exercise alot and drink alot of water? Would that sufficiently raise your metabolism without eating regularly? I just like having one big meal a day rather thank 3 or 4 smaller ones.

Having one big meal a day instead of a few tiny ones will slow down your metabolism.

No, you have to engage the digestive system several times a day so your body knows to increase you metabolic rate, and just water isn’t going to do this.

Eating one meal a day is very bad for you! It will kill your metabolism. If you only eat once a day, your body will start to store every bit of fat you eat. If you eat 4 meals a day, your body knows it can burn fat fast because it’s getting more. You’re going to screw up your blood glucose levels too. If you’re only eating once a day, you’re not getting enough protein and your body will digest its own muscles in order to get enough protein for healthy cell functioning. You will exercise and exercise and never build muscle. When your muscles are being deteriorated, your glucose levels will plummet. You will have sometimes severe spells of hypoglycemic shock. Moral of the story: eat more than once a day!

Actually, there is nothing about eating many times a day that makes you loose weight except that you tend to eat less overall. It is something often repeated, with no scientific support.

Eating less times a day makes you be under the influence of insulin for less time a day and under the influence of glucagon most of the time. Insulin make you produce fat and glucagon makes it break down. So I would keep eating less often if I were you.

What really speeds up fat break down, besides eating less, is exercise and caffeine (but don’t exaggerate on that). Water has no effect.
