Question by Tommy: Diet for cross country and mid distance runner?
I have run cross country for a couple of years now and run the 800 in track, sometimes 1600, but specialize in 800. I usually place in meets but want to do more and start winning more races and break state records. I know that nutrition can help a runner a lot and I really don’t have a nutritional diet plan. Can someone help me set one up?

First you should find your daily calorie needs. Then I would suggest you take in about 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Make sure it is lean protein like eggs, chicken, lowfat dairy, and turkey. Be sure that most of your carbs come from whole grain sources like, whole wheat bread, oatmeal, brown rice, etc. You may also want to check out whey protein supplements to take after your runs.
